Pluralistic Counselling with Somatic Trauma Therapy
Pluralistic Counselling is a collaborative approach that integrates somatic work along with cognitive processing to work holistically in support of accomplishing specific goals.
Pluralistic Counselling with Somatic Trauma Therapy
The pluralistic approach to counselling is a collaborative, flexible framework that recognizes there is no single “right” way to do therapy and different clients need different things at different times. It is rooted in the idea that there are multiple valid models for psychological distress and change.

How does it work?
From a pluralistic perspective, some people may want a therapist who just strives to be alongside them without expecting to accomplish goals. Other clients may want to have specific goals to accomplish such as being able to feel their feelings without being overwhelmed and wanting to know tools to support them in this. Somatic trauma therapy is one of the main modalities used in this type of work which offers tools to help support nervous system regulation and may be used with other types of talking therapy.

What do the sessions look like?

Sessions are held in a therapeutic space. The therapist will do a consultation and assessment in the first session. This is where we discuss what brings you in and what you want to accomplish in therapy sessions.
We discuss how pluralistic counselling works and cover the agreement which includes confidentiality and practicalities in moving forward. Sessions are a mix of talking therapy as well as somatic work to help support nervous system regulation. With including somatic work, it helps us to support processing from a place of regulation which helps us to think more clearly and rationally.
