Sessions take place outside in a natural environment at a local park.

The physical act of walking can help clients feel less “stuck” emotionally and mentally, release tension, and facilitate the processing of thoughts and feelings. The pace and distance of the walk are set by the client’s comfort level and physical ability.

Ethical rules and confidentiality are the same and discussed in our first session online. This includes discussing how to handle encounters with people you might know.

The first session is held online to cover safety factors, the agreement including confidentiality; and the logistics of walking outdoors. Clients can choose to pause, sit on a bench, or change the pace at any time during the session.

Inclement weather can be a limitation, and sessions may need to be rescheduled or modified.

Walk and talk therapy is a type of counselling where the client and therapist walk side by side in a natural setting instead of sitting in an office.  It combines the benefits of physical activity and being in nature to enhance traditional talk therapy, promoting relaxation, reduced stress, and improved mood.

The walking pace is set by the client and sessions can include sitting down if needed, maintaining the same ethical guidelines and confidentiality as traditional therapy.

How does it work?

This approach combines the benefits of physical activity and exposure to nature with conventional talk therapy, creating a less intimidating and often more relaxed environment for discussion and reflection.

What do the sessions look like?

Processing and exploring while walking to work on specific goals you came in with. Walking and working with somatic exploration such taking moments to view nature helps the nervous system to regulate differently.  Therefore, we are able to process things differently which can lead to new insights.  As we walk we will use nature through the felt sense such as the feeling of grass beneath our feet or leaves as we may describe them using the visual sense to help us regulate as we process and explore.  This all helps us to be in the present moment and to ground which helps us to look at things differently than before.  This type of therapy also helps us to increase blood flow to the brain which also supports thinking and looking at things maybe in a different way.  Walk and talk therapy offers an dynamic and refreshing alternative to conventional methods and promotes healing and growth through nature and movement.
